This is what I saw when I came in from taking the garbage to the curb this morning. Check out this post to see what she had her hand in!
The Simple Woman’s Daybook

For Today, Monday, January 5, 2009:
Outside my window…I see a cold but sunny Monday Morning.
I am thinking…that I don’t really want to get out of my pjs today.
I am thankful for…my warm house and my new coffee maker!
From the learning rooms: Ladybug is continuing her quest to learn to write her name. We are expecting a new reader series to arrive today!
From the kitchen: For Breakfast–Yogurt and Waffles, For Lunch–Sandwiches and Fruit, For Dinner–Frozen Pizza.
I am wearing…jeans and a pj top.
I am creating…a plan for organizing the house.
I am going…to stay home today, I hope.
I am reading…this book and the manual to my new camera.
I am hoping...to do some housework today.
I am hearing…doggie paws tip tapping on the hardwood floors.
Around the house: It’s cold! I don’t want to shed my blanket!
One of my favorite things…my new coffee maker.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
- Take at least some of the Christmas Decorations down and put them away.
- Get Ladybug back in the school routine.
- Do the shopping for next week’s meals.
Here is picture thought I am sharing:

Trial run
I wanted to try out my Wordpress for iPhone app. Bear with me please.

A map of the island where Dr. D and I honeymooned. We got it on the island during our trip, but I only had it framed recently. It’s one of the favorite things about our room!
3/365: Reading List Update
This is now on my reading list. I asked a friend to recommend a good photography book, and this is what he suggested. Understanding Exposure: How to Shoot Great Photographs with a Film or Digital Camera by Bryan Peterson. Hopefully this will help me learn how to take a good picture!

I bet you were wondering how I was able to get such a good quality photo of my old camera, not to mention the fact that I’m letting a 3y/o play with said camera.
Lookie what I got!
Canon G10
It’s a Christmas present from Dr. D which arrived this evening. I am super excited!
My old camera was a gift from Dr. D also. He got it for me when Ladybug was born. It has been a great camera for the past three years, though it is starting to show it’s age. That fact, combined with my increasing interest in photography spurred him to upgrade me! Thanks Baby!
Project 365
Yes, I’m on the bandwagon.
Here are my rules:
- Take at least one picture a day
- Picture can be from any camera (Cannon, iPhone, or MacBook).
- Post at least one picture a day.
- Picture can be included in a “regular” post, or it can just be a separate picture post.
- If I fall off the wagon, life will go on!
Happy New Year!
We had a fantastic night last night! Lazy, cozy, and full of cuddle time. Ladybug tried very hard to stay up late enough so she could watch The Ball Drop.
We could have been down in the basement where the decent size TV resides, but we chose to keep it cozy by staying in our bedroom.
Though we had some near misses (she almost crashed in my bed once), she made it! At Midnight EST, we broke out the champagne sparkling grape juice…
…and toasted the new year together as a family.
Happy New Year from our family to yours!
My heart belongs to him. Still.
Dr. D and I met in High School. He was a grade ahead of me, but we had two classes together. The summer of 1996 was when we really got to know each other. He went to a summer academic camp while I stayed at home–we racked up one heck of a phone bill but we became good friends over this short time.
Time passed, stuff happened and we became very close, so we started dating.
Dr. D graduated and went to college (in a different town) while I finished up my Senior Year. When I went to college, Dr. D transferred to the school I was attending. Fast forward a few years– I graduated on December 14, and we were married a week later on December 21.
The wedding was a big ole’ family affair. We had a Scottish wedding (Dr. D’s Family can be traced back to Scotland) complete with Kilts, Bagpipes and all the usual fanfare.
We have been through so much since that cold day in 2001. Heck, we’d been through quite a bit before that! But still, I can’t imagine trying to make my way in this world with anyone else.
So, today, on our 7th Anniversary, Dr. D has spent most of the day asleep. He was on call last night, so he hardly slept. Ladybug and I made his favorite dish (and one of our too!) so we are just going to have a relaxing dinner at home. Only because it’s -1°F outside with -23°F Wind Chill Factor. At least we have a good excuse to cuddle on the couch!
Honey, I love you. After 7 years you still have my heart.
Bah Humbug
Dear Retailers,
Why do you never ever have enough cashiers to handle the long lines at the check-out stand? Seriously. It takes me less time to do my actual shopping than it does to check out. Why must you make me and my preschooler stand in line for what feels like an eternity? And when I do make it to the front of the line, your cashier tries to hurry me through as fast as humanly possible. If I hear another cashier say, “If you are paying by credit card, you can go ahead and swipe it” I may just lose my mind.
I don’t want to open another credit card. Have you heard that there’s a credit crisis looming over us? Well there is. PLEASE stop preying upon clueless consumers. The enticement of opening another “high interest” credit card just to save a few bucks on your current purchase does work for some folks. But you are just helping people dig their debts deeper.
And before you tell me about the “customer survey at the end of my receipt”, please realize that I am not going to fill it out. Yes, I know that you told me that there is a chance I could win a shopping spree at your store, but have you ever heard of anyone winning that drawing? No? Me either. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to learn that the promise of a shopping spree was bogus.
So in summary, TREAT PEOPLE LIKE THEY ARE PEOPLE, not ignorant cattle that trot through your store.
Sincerely,
Christy
