A week in Real Life

Well…I decided that I wanted to go a full 10 days without posting, so here’s your update. I’m doing bullet points here because I’m not sure I can formulate transitional sentences at this time.

Mother’s Day

My Mother’s Day was fantastic. Dr. D and the kiddo allowed me to sleep late. When I did decide to roll out of bed, I was treated to a fabulous brunch at a local restaurant. I had a gourmet french toast dish that was made with homebaked bread and stuffed with sour cherry perserves. Add some Applewood Smoked bacon into the mix and I’m a happy mama. (I won’t even mention that I had a mimosa…making me super duper happy!) I didn’t even mind that it was raining all day.

After brunch, we took my poor little Eve into the Apple Store. Her screen has been flickering for a few weeks, so we took her in to the Genius Bar. They had to admit her and keep her for a couple of nights. She’s all better now, and I’m happy to report that she is flickering no more.

Dr. D

My poor husband has been sick all week. So sick in fact, he has yet to go to work. Fever, chills, and a super huge lymph node in his neck. It has been so puzzling to him, we decided to head in to the Urgent Care center. The doc said that he was dehydrated and that we should go to the ER for fluids. Still didn’t know what the swollen lymph node was.

Arrived at the ER at 8pm. Ladybug was such a little trooper. We ate some dinner, found a vending machine that dispensed milk, and had a good time watching the Pistons’ Game. She finally fell asleep in her stroller, so we draped all of our jackets over it to keep the light out. All I could see were her bare little toes sticking out from under her blue jeans. Fortunately, she slept there for a few hours, until we were discharged to go home. Unfortunately, we still didn’t really know what was going on with Dr. D. He went back to the Doc yesterday, and is still running fever today. It seems to be something that must run it’s course.

Ladybug

Ladybug has been a sweet little trooper this week. I have dragged her all over the countryside and she has been a little sweetheart. Her behavior has been fantastic, which means that my shoulders are only partially as sore as they could be if she had been up to her antics.

Doggies

Shadow has been sick for most of this week also. I won’t go into the disgusting details, but he has had severe poopy problems. He gets so embarrassed when he has an accident in the house, so we knew that something was wrong. I took him into the “Doggie ER” on Wednesday (after spending most of Tuesday night in the “people ER”). Sure enough, he has a GI bug that we are now treating. Ironically, as soon as we got back from the Vet, Rand vomited. We just can’t seem to catch a break around here! Rand seems to be fine, but Shadow is still a little puny.

House

We had the “new house” inspected on Wednesday. I know that this deserves its own post, but I’m too tired to break it up at this point. We spent about 2 hours checking out the house. I was able to ask questions about how the house currently stands, as well as questions about possibly renovation projects. Dr. D was still at home sick, so I hope I got all the major issues addressed. I am happy with the results of the inspection. There are no really major problems with the house, according to the inspector! We move on to the next step, which is Radon Testing.

So forgive me for the absence. I think I’m back. I’ll try to resume a somewhat normal posting schedule!

Sounds like a busy week! I hope that Dr. D and Shadow are feeling better soon and that the radon test goes well. Our house flunked the one when we bought it, but we had it tested again a couple of years ago and it was fine (huge relief). Good luck! :)

You gave me the quick update in email, so I won’t belabor any of the things we talked about….

    ‘cept let me say….
    home inspections suck.
Our house “passed with flying colors.”

Yeah, apparently they didn’t notice that when it rains hard and long, water pours in through the electrical supply line (the main line!)
Totally NOT sure how to handle that one!
