Surreal

Currently, I’m sitting in the den of our new house. It is a fantastic room on the main floor with deep red walls (like my old bathroom, Kamrin) and white wainscoting below the chair rail. There are two double windows and a fireplace. It’s not a HUGE room, but it feels huge when compared to the tin can that we’ve been living in for the past 10 months. It is a great room. I feel very comfortable when I am sitting in it. I’ve never had a room quite like this in any of the houses I’ve lived in, yet it feels so familiar and cozy. I can’t quite pinpoint it either.

Is it because of the hand-me-down furniture that I’ve seen for years in relatives’ homes?

Is it because the color is so warm and rich?

Is it because it’s ours?

I’m inclined to think that it’s because it’s ours. The duplex never felt like home. We never wanted to spend time there, always aching to be somewhere else. Now, I’m ready to get all my errands finished so I can just spend a day at home!
