WFMW: No time for Christmas Cards?
This week, our usual hostess is out trotting the globe, in Uganda, of all places! Melanie (aka Chilihead) has graciously and generiously offered to host us gaggle of geese this geek. I mean, week.
I have NEVER been able to pick-out, address, and mail Christmas cards in an efficient manner. I just can’t seem to get them out BEFORE the actual holiday! So I stopped trying. My family does not send out Christmas cards at all.
We send out Valentine’s Cards instead!
For the last few years, I have been successfully able to create photo cards to mail to our friends and family for Valentine’s day. I don’t have to worry about getting caught up in the Christmas rush, but the people that I care about still get to have a card from my little family.
That’s what’s working for me. What’s working for you? Head on over to Don’t Try This at Home to find more tips and tricks!
Target Overload
This Post got me to thinking about all that I have gotten at Target during their “After Christmas Clearance” and their “Huggies Wipe Extravaganza”!
During the after Christmas Sale, I waited until things were 75% off before I even walked in the door. I was able to get Stocking Holders and Stockings for $2.75 each. I chose the plain stockings so we could customize them with our names or a cute monogrammed pin. I have plenty to for next year when we are in our new house (fingers crossed)!
This $3.00 Sleigh, marked down from $14, is a big hit around here!
I also got several Glade Oil Candle Holders and refills with the printable coupons from Coupons.com.
The Holders were on sale because they were Christmas Scents and I used a Buy One Get One Free coupon on them too. They ended up being about $12 for all of them. The Refills were $2.00 with a $1.50 coupon per refill. I really like the Apple Cinnamon scent. They will be great for next Christmas.
Also on sale were some of the toys that they brought in just for Christmas Presents. I got this Play-Doh caddy for 4 bucks and change. Almost worth it just for the rolling pin and scissors!
The Huggies coupon was a great deal for us too. For those of you that don’t know, the coupon was for $3.00 off of 2 Huggies Products. At first, I thought that I would be able to get some overage, but that was not the case here. Our products tend to be priced higher than down South. The “travel wipes” that people were using to get overage were $1.27 here…and very elusive. I couldn’t find them very often at all. I had to settle for the $1.97 packs. No overage, but the wipes ended up being right around $0.01 per wipe. That’s a good price! I have so many packages now that the diaper bag will be stocked for a long time. In fact, we may be using some of the Christmas wipes next holiday season!
Is my Tongue Green?
Yes Dear, and your Poop will be too!
When I was little, my Grandma made these green, sticky candies every year. They recipe calls for the same basic ingredients as rice krispie treats, using corn flakes instead of krispies and adding copious amounts of green food dye. They are shaped into “Christmas Wreaths” topped with red hot candies. I loved them, my sister loved them, and my cousin loved them. Now, my sister has taken on the tradition of preparing this Christmas Delicacy for the next generation. My grandmother was happy to pass the tradition on, as her arthritic hands just can’t handle the gooey mixing process! I’m excited. I really want my daughter to know this great tradition…even if it means green poop in her diaper!

It’s 10:51 EST. Are you in bed yet?
Santa is on his way! I just checked the map and he was in New Jersey. Get the kiddies in bed, stat. No pouting or shouting, either.
It’s what any sane person would do…

…upon seeing snow for the first time of the season!
My sweet little sister! Standing outside, 23°F and snowing, in her Hawgs T-shirt. Can you tell that we didn’t grow up with snow?
It could be a doozie in the morning. We may get as much as a foot of snow this evening. Thank goodness Dr. D’s parents sent an early Christmas present today– A toddler sled! Perhaps we will get to use it tomorrow!
Flying with a Toddler
On Monday, we found out that we will be going to Arkansas for Christmas. Dr. D has a few days off from work and we decided that it was just too short of a time frame to drive. So we booked plane tickets for the three of us.
After this past year of hopping flights to “the north” to go house hunting and what not, Dr. D and I have it figured out. We usually take only a wheel-aboard suitcase and our computer bags. That meets our carry on allowance and we don’t have to stop at baggage claim. We know the rules for liquids and we are pretty good at having our routine down. Get in screening line, show ID and Boarding Pass, remove shoes, remove coat, remove laptop from case, take out baggie of liquids, keep holding onto boarding pass, walk through detector, retrieve all belongings and try to re-assemble ourselves as fast as possible as not to hold up the line. It works for us. We don’t check luggage and we print out our boarding passes online before we leave so we don’t even have to stop at the ticket counter on the way into the airport.
But what do I do now? I’m traveling with A TODDLER!!!!!
Do I try and take her Milk through the Security Checkpoint? What kinds of activities do I need for her? What if she freaks out on the plane? Do I need to give her Benadryl? Should we try to avoid checking our luggage? Will that be too many carry-ons? Should I take the stroller to the gate?
Whew!
I know that the flight is only 2 hours or so, but I have a feeling that my world is about to be turned upside down, yet again. So…I’m calling on y’all to help with some tips and tricks to get me through this. What do you do when you fly with the kiddos? What am I not thinking of?
HELP!!!!! Please?
(If you are in the same boat, er Plane, feel free to crosspost this with a link back here. I would love to have all the comments in the same place so we can all reap the benefits!)
Keeping Tabs on the Fat Man in the Red Suit
While reading Parent Hacks this morning, I noticed a link about Google. They are teaming with NORAD this year to help Track Santa’s Trip from the North Pole!
Just head on over to NORAD’s Santa Tracking Site. They have all kinds of games and trivia and such. Then head over to Google’s Official Blog. There, you will find instructions for adding the “Santa Tracker” widget to your iGoogle Homepage. There is also a special 3-D Plug-in for Google Earth that you can download on Dec 24th. That way you can keep up with Santa!
But it’s Christmas….

Life with a two year-old is always interesting! Ever since Thanksgiving, we have been working hard to learn about Christmas Traditions. She didn’t have a clue what was going on last year, though we made sure to involve her in as many ways as possible. This year we are reading lots of books, watching lots of movies, and singing lots of songs all in preparation for the big day.
It’s still hard! She does not quite understand that Santa’s name is Santa. She keeps calling him “Christmas”. To make things worse this year, we are living in such cramped quarters that we have opted not to put up a Christmas tree. Even worse is the fact that all of our small decorations are in storage–in Arkansas.
Today, however, we have had a breakthrough! After reading all the Christmas books we own, watching Rudolph, and talking at length about white beards, trees and sugar cookies, I caught a glimpse into her mind that makes me think that she understands.
Her: Mama, I need Juice.
Me: You just had a cup of milk, sweetie.
Her: But it’s Twismas, Mama!
She also keeps trying to hook up both dog leads to Shadow. Though she can’t quite get it, she will settle for draping them across his back. She acts like they are reigns and then says, “Mewy Twismas!”

Excess Holiday Cards?
This is not the post that I had planned for today, but I read it over at Mama Karma’s Site and it seemed appropriate for today. Instead of trashing those piles of Holiday Cards at the end of the season, check out this post about re-purposing them for bookmarks, ornaments, recipe cards, and even new holiday cards!
