We made it!

I’ll fill you all in tomorrow, but we made it!  Now if we could only escape the pending ice storm….

Valentine’s Day: Part 2

The ladybug basket is her official Valentine’s Basket. We have used it every year, so far.

This year, we stuffed a Tutu inside! Here’s a better shot of the colors.

I think that it is going to be a huge hit, especially since we have moved into the dance-dance-dance stage.

Valentine’s Day: Part 1

This morning we woke up to another beautiful day here. The sun is out and I can hear the wind gently blowing my chimes on the front porch.

When I saw my sweet little girl this morning she said, “Happy Vaw-em-times Day, Mommy!” Then she followed it up with, “Where’s my pwesent?”

Yeah. She’s a spoiled little thing.

I politely explained to her, yet again, that we had to wait for daddy to get home before we could exchange our Valentines. She was cool with that, until the door rang.

EVERY time the door rings, Ladybug thinks that whoever at on the other side of the door certainly MUST be delivering a present for her.

Again, I know she’s completely rotten.

Lo and behold, it WAS a package for her. My parents had sent her V-Day gifts in a big box, knowing she would get a huge thrill out of it. Secretly, I got a big thrill too when I opened the box to find these:

Yep. My Mama sent me a box of cookies. Thought they might be peppermint, but they were actually chocolate chunks and white chocolate chips! Delicious.

Ladybug was so excited that she couldn’t seem to put down her new toys. Here’s how we spent the morning!

Don’t ya just love the necklace-bracelet-shades-barrette combo?

We had just rolled out of bed, so we ended up eating cookies, milk, Diet Pepsi and PEZ for breakfast, a move I have later come to regret. We had fun though. And a little fun never really hurt anyone.

(Stick around for Part 2, in which she gets more stuff, furthering my theory that she is completely and utterly spoiled rotten.)

Nana and Paw Paw

A couple weeks ago, my parents came up for their bi-monthly visit. They arrived on a Sunday, and we hit the ground running! Ladybug immediately latched on to them and refused to let them out of her sight. She even wanted to stay with them at the hotel. Evidently that is a huge luxury to her. The room that they get is a corner suite (not expensive at all…it’s a Holiday Inn Express) with tons of room to run around. Ladybug LOVES to run around there.

Except for doing some shopping and getting a haircut, I basically spent all week with them. They allowed me to sleep-in every morning and treated me to fancy dinners at night. We always get to go to “the good restaurants” when they are in town.

In a way, it’s like being on vacation with them.

When people come to visit, I get an excuse to go out and see the places that surround me. We ventured into Detroit to attend the Auto Show.

We even made a trip to the Outlet Mall, where we scored big.

Did you know that The Children’s Place does a HUGE sale in January? Yeah. Got several things for Ladybug and even some things for her cousins and a few friends. Spent less than $200 and walked out with three huge bags of stuff, including 4 Puffer Coats. Here’s just a few things we got.

Yeah, the grey boots are my new winter boots. They are super comfy too.

My mom and I were joking around while we were hopping from store to store. We realized that we have spent many trips shopping at outdoor malls during the summer months when we were going from door to door, sweating and longing for the air conditioner to cut the humid gulf-coast air. One year in Florida, we didn’t even need coats in the middle of our winter shopping trip. This year though, we donned gloves, coats, and hats for every time we changed stores! It was a very different (and bulkier) shopping experience for us.

We had a great visit. They got ready to leave on Saturday and the following conversation happened as soon as Ladybug figured it out.

Ladybug: “Nana? You wanna come sweep in mah bed? Wif me?”

My Mom: “No, sweetie. I need to go back to Arky-saw* with Paw Paw.”

Ladybug: “No Nana. You stay here.”

My Mom: “Ok. I’ll stay here and sleep in your bed.”

Ladybug: “Wif me.”

It was precious. We had already discussd the possibility of her staying, but I had no idea that my girl was going to be so adamant about it. So my mom stayed for an additional week. My dad headed home (and drove the ENTIRE TRIP in one day! Crazy man.) only to return in one week. He’s so sweet that way.

*My daughter says “Arky-saw” instead of Arkansas. It’s very cute, but also very hickly. Just like her Mama.

Brrr.

According to The Weather Channel, it is 2 degrees here…but it feels much colder.  I just took the dogs outside to relieve themselves and even they were too cold to do much!

Well, truthfully, I don’t think it was the cold that stopped them from doin’ their business.  Perhaps it is the fact that the snow is up to their little peepers!

Because it has been snowing on and off for 2 days now, we have had plenty of time to play!  We even walked to a Chinese Restaurant yesterday for a late lunch.  The snow was falling the entire time!

When we got home, we made more snowballs and played catch.  She really likes the cold, fluffy snow!

Is my Tongue Green?

Yes Dear, and your Poop will be too!

When I was little, my Grandma made these green, sticky candies every year. They recipe calls for the same basic ingredients as rice krispie treats, using corn flakes instead of krispies and adding copious amounts of green food dye. They are shaped into “Christmas Wreaths” topped with red hot candies. I loved them, my sister loved them, and my cousin loved them. Now, my sister has taken on the tradition of preparing this Christmas Delicacy for the next generation. My grandmother was happy to pass the tradition on, as her arthritic hands just can’t handle the gooey mixing process! I’m excited. I really want my daughter to know this great tradition…even if it means green poop in her diaper!

The Love of My Life

Dr. D and I met in High School. He was a grade ahead of me, but we had two classes together. The summer of 1996 was when we really got to know each other. He went to a summer academic camp while I stayed at home–we racked up one heck of a phone bill but we became good friends over this short time.

Time passed, stuff happened and we became very close, so we started dating.

Dr. D graduated and went to college (in a different town) while I finished up my Senior Year. When I went to college, Dr. D transferred to the school I was attending. Fast forward a few years– I graduated on December 14, and we were married a week later on December 21.

The wedding was a big ole’ family affair. We had a Scottish wedding (Dr. D’s Family can be traced back to Scotland) complete with Kilts, Bagpipes and all the usual fanfare.

We have been through so much since that cold day in 2001. Heck, we’d been through quite a bit before that! But still, I can’t imagine trying to make my way in this world with anyone else.

So, all of our bags are packed and we’re ready to go. I’m on my way to pick up Dr. D from the hospital and then we will head to the airport. We are looking forward to a spending a nice and relaxing anniversary on an airplane. With a toddler. Just one more thing that we get to experience–together.

Honey, I love you. Happy 6th Anniversary!

It’s what any sane person would do…

SisSnowTongue

…upon seeing snow for the first time of the season!

My sweet little sister! Standing outside, 23°F and snowing, in her Hawgs T-shirt. Can you tell that we didn’t grow up with snow?

It could be a doozie in the morning. We may get as much as a foot of snow this evening. Thank goodness Dr. D’s parents sent an early Christmas present today– A toddler sled! Perhaps we will get to use it tomorrow!
